    Description

The Islamic conquest of Egypt and Syria made possible a fleet that rivaled with Byzantium for naval control of the Mediterranean. The Saracen land troops, determined and hard-fighting, comprised elements from different ethnic groups and social standing, but kept together by their Faith.
